With the release of Overwatch 2 Season 2, players are diligently diving into the new meta (especially if they’re core Doomfist players). However, alongside the release of the latest multiplayer hero, there is a new method by which players can get their hands on other new characters, including Sojorn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko. There was a lot of concern about what this might entail, but it turns out it’s so smart that I’d suggest making it the default method.
Blizzard has decided to lower the requirements to unlock Ramattra in Overwatch 2 from reaching level 55 in the Season 2 Battle Pass, which means you will now have access to the Omnic tank at level 45. However, it is still a fair amount of effort: enough that many players won’t have it ready when it becomes available in competitive play. Of course, you can also shell out 1,000 Overwatch Coins if you want immediate access.
So if you don’t currently have any other Overwatch 2 starters, how do you unlock metaset railgun specialist Sojorn, fan-favorite Aussie athlete and Junker Queen, and nimble support Kiriko (wait until you see her in your bike?)? If you go to the “Challenge” screen, you can now access the “Hero” tab, where you will find a series of tasks to complete to unlock each hero.
The first is the most demanding: you’ll need to rack up a hefty 35 kills while queuing for “all roles” or the corresponding role for that hero (DPS for Sojourn, tank for Junker Queen, and support for Kiriko). ). However, the other challenges make me smile because they require you to test all the abilities of the characters in the Overwatch 2 training roster.
None of them is too demanding; for example, you need to use Kiriko’s quickstep to jump an allied bot over a wall, while one of Junker Queen’s challenges asks you to hit an enemy bot with her Carnage ax after pulling it towards you. . his alternate shot from Jagged Blade. They’re simple, but they ensure that players only take a few minutes to familiarize themselves with everything the character does and the possible uses of the abilities.
It might seem like I’m just complaining about the players in my games who don’t seem to know half of what their character can do (and maybe I do). However, as someone who already takes all the new heroes to the training ground for just a few minutes to get a quick feel for how they move and shoot, it’s nice to see players encouraged to take on newbies for a short period. in front of the tail
Ideally, this is just the first step – I wish Blizzard would include a “character tutorial” for each hero a bit more that goes over the basics of the game and some quick tricks you can do together. If you’ve ever gone through the Overwatch walkthrough (which I went through when Overwatch 2 released), then you’ll have a pretty good idea of what I’m looking for, as it covers the basics of the game Soldier: 76 well. Similar concepts for other characters would be a great way to encourage players to try new characters and roles instead of sticking to their safe picks, which can often be intimidating against human opponents.
Such a thing may be in the works by the Overwatch 2 PvE release date; even if not, this could be another good area to deal with heroes outside of your comfort zone.
