Three May Come, But Five Kill: The five Blizzard classes in Diablo 4 have been selected by Blizzard for various reasons, but game director Joe Shelley hints that some familiar faces could join the roster later in the game. role. life cycle.
As most Diablo veterans know, the game starts with five unique classes that are mostly supplemented by seven different DLC packs.
Diablo 4 is not much different. There are five classes; Barbarian, druid, necromancer, thief, and wizard, a number that Assistant Game Director Joseph Piepiora describes as one that Blizzard “very much loves.” That’s a good design number,” he quips, but goes on to explain, “five is a pretty good number because it allows us to fulfill a lot of basic fantasies across the board, because we’re looking for different ways to play. “
When I asked Joe Shelley what classes were included, he replied, “If you think about the classes we show for [Diablo 4’s] launch, there are some aspects.
“We know that a lot of players have characters that they love, so there are a lot of players that remember playing as a barbarian or remember playing as a necromancer and want to have that experience, so we tried to pick characters that we liked. previous game players. Games.
“We also considered the playstyles these characters represent,” he continues. “For example, with the Necromancer, players who like to summon a lot of characters or enjoy the fantasy of a dark spellcaster [will want to play them]. The Sorcerer is a strong and powerful mage, while the Barbarian is a melee combatant. Then you have the Rogue, who has a long-range physical archer, and you can also play him as an up-close knife-wielding assassin. It’s really exciting.”
One of my all-time favorite classes, though, is the Witch Doctor, a Diablo 3 class that fell into obscurity relatively early on and was almost entirely replaced by the creepy but somewhat lovable Necromancer when Rise of the Necromancer released.
When I asked (and half begged) Sheley to add my mysterious magical loser to the fight, she laughed and replied, “We’d like to talk about things coming to our live service and expansions in the future.”
However, he adds that “it’s a tradition in Diablo games to add new classes,” hinting that we can probably expect new characters to be added in future updates. I’ll cross my fingers and wait for the Witch Doctor, but Shelly took pity on me and gave me a little apology for not including them until now, so you know what, I’ll take it.
