RDNA 3 graphics cards like the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX will go live early next month, but you may have to wait a bit for custom options. How much more? Well, by the time the overclocked models arrive, you may have saved your Christmas tree.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and XT reference GPUs will apparently still be in the race for the best graphics cards on December 13. The first is positioned as the leader of the red team, but the company says that it is designed to compete with the RTX 4080. The factory ones, of course. Overclocked models may have an advantage over rival Nvidia Lovelace, and improved specs may help it survive the RTX 4090 battle.
Site MyDrivers, discovered by Wccftech, says custom Radeon RX 7900 models won’t arrive until “about 1-2 weeks” after AMD’s official release date. The report also describes the initial shipments as “lean,” which is the norm these days when it comes to stocking graphics cards.
It’s worth noting that AMD originally said that custom RDNA 3 cards would start appearing “early mid-December.” The company’s presentation mentions several vendors, including ASRock, Asus, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX, and Yeston. In other words, even if the company sticks to its original launch window, you probably won’t be able to get one of the options on December 13.
The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and its more powerful sibling already have an edge over the green team’s Leviathan Lovelace in terms of price. While our Nvidia RTX 4080 review shows off the impressive capabilities of the GeForce GPU, it costs $200 more than its RDNA 3 competitor. However, the AIB models will likely sell at a different MSRP, which means that by the end of the next month, we could get a bunch of expensive alternatives.
