April Editorial Review

April started and ended in style for me as a player. At first, with a great group of teammates, I enjoyed a solid ride in the Outriders, which we enjoyed so much (especially the demanding Expeditions after the end of the campaign) that even the regular evening server crashes didn’t stop us. And I don’t even mind what kind of gaming nirvana I fell into in the middle of the month, when an unexpected hit called Returnal fell into my hands. I have already confessed in a review about how perfect the game is wrapped around my finger, but you can also come and listen to it on our second stream. You will see a walkthrough of several biomes and hear advanced tips for the game.

Probably the most anticipated game of the first half of this year, Resident Evil Village will be released in May. Judging by the playable previews, it will offer us an interesting combination of the popular gameplay of the series with new elements such as vampires and werewolves, all in a great design and with a truly frightening atmosphere. Personally, I’m almost as much looking forward to the second Subnautic subtitled Below Zero, which I played in Early Access, but at that time there was, among other things, the end of the story and the descent into the deepest depths, so the best thing about this game is probably only are waiting. Overall, I’m under the impression that the 2021 gaming season has finally begun, and I’m looking forward to enjoying this game with you all.

April was once again in a video game crisis for me. In principle, no game interested me, except for the exclusive PlayStation 5 Returnal, but since it came out today, I have not got to it yet. So I ended up going from news only to the new looter shooter Outriders from my favorite team, People Can Fly (absolutely love Painkiller and Bulletstorm). That’s why I was very disappointed. The exploration is still ongoing when shooting at local enemies is definitely interesting, pleasantly smart, and local skills are effective. As a result, you can get glimpses of fun during the game. However, the game suffers from several issues (ranging from a technical one to a lack of enemy variety) that cause too many moments of frustration to warrant recommending this game. But to be honest, I’m not the target.

May is starting to get very interesting. Of course, I’m looking forward to Resident Evil Village, which impresses me a lot, because the werewolves and vampires are just great! I’m also very curious about Biomutant, which I’ve been looking forward to since it was announced, and I’m quite genuinely curious about how the final product will turn out (hopefully good!). Anyway, my black horse is Hood: Outlaws & Legends. When I announced this PvPvE event, I was disappointed that we would not have a single player experience, but over time I found a way to do this, and at the moment I can say that I may be looking forward to it. So let’s hope I don’t leave sad.

If I were smarter, I could play PS5 and enjoy Returnal. Unfortunately, the situation did not suit me. But quite a cry, fortunately (but unfortunately at the same time) we live in a time when games come out in such a rhythm that sadness after the next game can be easily driven away. And soon the sadness will surely turn into fear, perhaps not from the lack of consoles, but from Resident Evil: Village. It is quite clear to me that the vast majority of our editorial team is looking forward to this sequel, and as far as I know my colleagues, they will certainly write styles (in a good way of the word) about it. That’s why I will save you.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is due out in May, but I’m trying to distance myself. I know from experience that it is better to wait less and be pleasantly surprised, on the contrary, it is usually more painful. Also, I sincerely look forward to the Switch port of Maneater, I just hope that the creators can optimize the game well. There’s not much time to spend on the train biting people’s heads (and not looking as weird as you really want).

When I look back, I see quality playing time. I’ve finally managed to finish the Final Fantasy VII remaster I mentioned in my last summary, and I have to say I’d be “drowned” there for a few more hours. However, in the case of Days Gone, I had a slightly different opinion, which was a little disappointing for me as a post-pop lover. So at least the first part of the game, the second turned into an interesting story, but at first I found relationships with uninteresting characters. I still have a few hours to finish, but I’m glad the initial resistance is of interest.

I also came across a great cooperative action adventure It Takes Two. Hazelight Studios has proven they know what they’re doing. A few weaker moments balance a lot of interesting ones. I recommend playing the game with a partner, because in this way It Takes Two takes on a new dimension. Just keep an eye out for boss fights because some of the fights can be carried over from the game to reality.

In March I managed to finish three titles. The first was God of War, which I edited for the fourth time, this time at 60fps on PS5 in New Game+ on Give Me God of War difficulty. To make matters worse, I disabled the HUD completely. The experience was great, because I managed to study the combat system in detail during this time and the enemy was devastated for one joy. Only after the final boss did I sweat a lot.

The second mark was Days Gone. Much has been written about this, I will add that I also belong to the camp of its great supporters. On the plus side, I will single out beautiful nature, dramatic changes in the behavior of enemies in the day and night cycle, the ability to talk about individual encounters so that different types of opponents unload each other, pleasant music and, no less important, absolutely fantastic sensations from riding a motorcycle. At 60fps on the PS5, it’s a great experience. Probably, what confused me most of all was a certain foresight of the plot and in some places the rather illogical behavior of the characters. But in the end, I liked you too. I will add that even here I played on Survival difficulty with a minimum of HUD and without the possibility of fast movement – I definitely recommend this style. And as icing on the cake, I add Streets of Rage 2 – thanks to the legendary threshing machine, which I cut several times on the Mega Drive Mini. The game is aged like wine, it has an excellent soundtrack, and especially with the original Mega Drive driver, it is a pleasure to play it.

The spring season started in April, but I stayed to catch up. I started with Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun because last year I was completely enamored with Desperados 3. I was missing some features in the old Mimimi game, but I still really liked the game. I subsequently completed the entire Uncharted spin-off series with Lost Legacy. Nathan Drake is missing here, but the game doesn’t suffer much. Chloe and Nadine do a great job.

Then I began to prepare for the release of Resident Evil Village. First, I went through last year’s remake of the third part again, and then I went through Resident Evil 7 twice (the second time on Madhouse difficulty). I have played this game several times but I still like it and I believe I will have the same experience with RE8.

In addition, I also got to It Takes Two, which I really liked. I usually don’t really look for co-op games, but from the first trailer it became clear to me that I needed it. And I definitely didn’t regret it. Nice graphics, fun and constantly changing gameplay and emotional story. This is undoubtedly one of the best cooperative games of recent times.

In early May, I’ll be kicking off the Return of the PS5 Exclusive, and a week later, my most anticipated game of the year, Resident Evil Village, will be released. I’m also curious about the outcome of Hood: Outlaws & Legends and the Biomutant, which has been delayed several times.

April has been a relatively dry month for me in terms of recently released games. I’ve postponed this month’s first game, Outriders, indefinitely due to technical issues. So I invested my free time in my previous promise and decided to continue on my way to overcome the Dark Souls trilogy. Yes, I continued under the name Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. After long hours as my blood pressure soared to astronomical heights, I finally saw the closing credits. Despite the incredible suffering, I must admit that I fell in love with the game with my soul, and it is beginning to become my favorite genre. In addition to self-torture in Dark Souls, we also got carried away with the review of NieR: Replicant ver.1.22474487139 Ano (yes, I had to look for the name on the Internet). A more difficult intro for me, but once I got past it, it was exactly the NieR I was craving.

As a not-so-big fan of the Resident Evil series, I’ll save the last episode of this franchise for later. Instead, I plan to lash out with Subnautica: Below Zero, the sequel to the legendary Subnautica, but this time in a polar environment. And, of course, I will save the galaxy as Commander Shepard in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Undoubtedly, they too will start with Dark Souls III in May. It’s going to be a very busy month, but I’m looking forward to it!

Due to a number of other responsibilities this month, I spent more time only in MotoGP 21. The new year surprised me in many ways, so it was definitely not a bad time.

As for May, it’s probably useless to write that I’m looking forward to Resident Evil Village. In the second half of the month, I would definitely like to dive into the PC version of Days Gone. But an imaginary black horse and the wonder of a busy moon could make for a creative-looking biomutant whose colorful world I’d like to venture into too.
