Comic Review Batman / Fortnite – Point Zero #3

For series, the rule is that in the middle of the season you need to come up with a big denouement so that the audience does not get bored and does not think that the series is always about the same thing. So I expected a similar change in pace and direction from the third part of the six-part Bod Zero comic. Including because part of the story with the Catwoman seemed to end on the last notebook. So it was clear that comics had to move to a new speed, and the only question left was what to focus on.

Loop Observer

The path the creators have chosen to take for their “mid-season twist” is obvious right from the first page. Instead of the thoughts of a silent Batman or other characters on a mysterious battlefield, our narrator is a brand new “Loop Observer” character who comments on events on the island and focuses on Batman’s actions, which he describes as very unsettling. It is understood that Batman is slowly breaking through to uncover the secrets of the loop and escape it, so the Watcher turns to his mysterious superiors to help him deal with the situation.

This decision is the second key figure to appear on the island to face Batman, and you will find it right on the cover of this notebook. It’s none other than Snake Eyes, the famous ninja warrior from the G.I. Joe comic (and toy) series. His skills and weaponry quickly prove to be a worthy hindrance to Batman’s efforts, and their battles become wilder and more spectacular, with relatively impressive and unexpected side effects for the other fighters on the island. By the way, the presence of this particular character is probably not accidental, since the other day we saw the first real trailer for the film “Eyes of the Snake”.

As I devoured the first few pages, I was thrilled at the idea of hiring an observer and wondering if the creators would dare to tear down the fourth wall to the point where it could be someone from Epic Games. But once the focus shifted to graduation duels with Snake Eyes, I got a little bored…until I realized what impact this would have on the rest of the island’s inhabitants and how clear it was that Batman would eventually face this extraordinary threat. The third comic book was a real rollercoaster ride for me – delight, disappointment, surprise, and again delight. As such, Point Zero remains a creative and interesting story that ends well.

Batman Lesson

While it’s more or less an action movie at its core, I’m starting to admire the way the writers chose to portray Batman and the reasons why he thrives where everyone else fails. Batman doesn’t rush into the action head on, he doesn’t let (or at least not for long) be ruled by his emotions. And above all he respects his opponents, he really tries to understand them. It has paid off for him in past battles, but especially in this one. I think his approach is a valuable lesson for younger readers, as well as a useful reminder for those who are older. A strong story is usually backed by a strong idea – this is no exception.

As usual, in this book you will also find the code to unlock the new Fortnite skin. This time it’s a pickpocket catwoman nicknamed “Claw”. It’s a pretty big tool, so none of your teammates or opponents are likely to miss it while playing. By the way, I had more players watching me while testing this gear than I was used to after their deaths, so the comic book skins are sure to pique the interest of the players. Or I was just very successful.

The notebooks are published every 14 days, so the fourth volume is waiting for us on Wednesday, June 2.
