Using VR goggles, viewers of COP 27 in Egypt can take a ten-minute journey through the Amazon rainforest. This technology allows the visitor to take a boat ride on the Amazon River, visit the home of a coastal family whose electricity is generated by solar panels, enter the dense vegetation of the forest and, in one of the most emblematic moments of the trip, visit the Torre Alta da Amazônia (ATTO) observatory. .
This is an important research project, set in the middle of a forest, with a steel tower 325 meters tall, taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris, which aims to collect information that will allow specialists to expand our understanding of the Amazon rainforest. and its interaction with the earth below and the atmosphere.
Until this Tuesday (15.11) more than a thousand visitors from more than 80 countries have already visited the virtual tour, prepared by the Special Secretariat for Communications (SECOM) of the Ministry of Communications in partnership with the Ministry of Science. Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Mining and Energy and Ministry of the Environment.
“Thank you so much for the experience,” says Egyptian Sarah Noaman. “It was amazing! I want to live there and I never want to leave this place. And the tower is incredible. It’s so high…”
The experience was impressive even for those already accustomed to the forest, like the Brazilian chief Ninawa. “Technology is developing more and more, and with the help of virtual reality, you can take a trip through the Amazon. This is what is presented here at the booth in Brazil. This is a high quality production that showed parts of the Amazon and the reality of how people live there,” he praises.
For Mauritanian Cheikh Konate, the trip showed Brazil’s commitment to the green economy proposals and the COP 27 agenda. “It was an incredible experience. I felt like I was in a helicopter flying over all of Brazil. Brazil is deeply committed to a green economy. Brazil does have a green energy and economy,” he says.
“When you put on glasses, they take you to Brazil to see the people and feel like you are in the country,” says Egyptian Sherin Badr. “I experienced the VR performance and it’s super cool. It’s a really cool experience and I encourage you all to come and visit the Brazilian Pavilion and COP 27,” he adds.
Marcelo Freire, Secretary of the Amazon and Ecological Services of the Ministry of the Environment, emphasizes the importance of the Brazilian position at COP 27 to draw the attention of foreign visitors and even Brazilians not only to the Amazon, but also to public policies that are designed to protect national biomes.
“This is the largest rainforest on the planet, a natural treasure that fascinates people in all countries, but most do not have the opportunity to visit the Amazon. It’s incredible to be able to bring them up close at COP 27 in such a realistic way and we’re very pleased with the response from people around the world to this Amazon tour.”
