Comic Review Batman / Fortnite – Point Zero #4

Whereas past episodes had to make do with the internal monologue of the characters, with the square we move “out of the loop” into a world where the characters can talk to each other normally. Thus, the most striking feature of the fourth tutorial is the much greater emphasis on dialogues and interactions. Unfortunately, this shows how whale-like some aspects of the story are, but once Batman and Catwoman get a lot of space on their own, things become a lot more mature and interesting.

secret of the island

Although after the events of the last episode Batman got out of the cursed loop that repeatedly deprived him of long-term memories and the ability to speak, he is still on a mysterious island. However, in the space outside the loop, different rules apply, and the restrictions mentioned no longer apply here. On the other hand, everyone only has one real life… which turns out to be a little dangerous at the very beginning of the fourth workbook, because clearly more fighters have broken out of the loop, and their relationship is not exactly the best.

However, after the initial threat, everyone gradually agrees that it is in their mutual and personal interests to work together to find a solution and get off the island. Although Deathstroke’s characters can be found in a group of refugees, they all gradually accept the fact that Batman will become their natural leader – his detective skills and natural authority are hard to miss. Subsequently, everyone embarks on an organized search that will really bear fruit in the form of new revelations about the history and technology of the mysterious island. In the meantime, we’ll also enjoy some nice provocative interactions between Batman and Catwoman.

This is followed by penetration into the “behind the scenes” of the island, i.e. into a seemingly inaccessible zone from where someone manipulates all local events. Although there will be no full exposure or confrontation, things will go wrong and we will see the first “permanent” deaths. We will enter the next part with much higher risks and stakes, although most of us can guess which characters we don’t have to worry about.

traditional history

Some of the magic of the first half of the series, when the authors had to make do with a minimum of letters, focus more on emotions, and everything was dominated by a much more mysterious secret of the local world, is slowly fading away. Instead, a relatively traditional “team” action takes place, in which a group of heroes have to fight together a dangerous situation and defeat the one who is to blame. While I deeply regret this departure from the great atmosphere of the previous installments, on the other hand, I’m still tense as to exactly how the authors will explain the functioning of Fortnite Island.

This book also contains a code to download the skin directly into the Fortnite game, which must be applied on the game’s website. This is another glider – this time it belongs to Deathstroke. I have to admit that I’m a bit disappointed as I was expecting the comics to gradually provide us with one set, for example for Batman – from costume to glider to pickaxe, emotes, tags, etc. But that doesn’t change the fact that the glider looks good. And while testing, I won a (solo) Victory Royale this time, which made me happy, since lately I only turn on the game for one test match every 14 days.

Notebooks are published every 14 days, so the fifth volume is waiting for us on Wednesday, June 16th.
