The Modern Warfare 2 built-in test is meant to give you an idea of how you can expect an FPS game to run on your system, but unfortunately it’s not the most reliable tool. Thankfully, it now appears to have received a patch that fixes inaccurate frame rate reports, meaning it should now better reflect your PC’s performance.

Issues with the Modern Warfare 2 benchmark were noted shortly after launch. CapFrameX noting that “the game’s algorithm has a (local) aggregation/rounding issue”, meaning the fps numbers weren’t accurate. In the image provided by their Twitter account, you can see that the frame rate numbers reported by the software vary significantly from the built-in test.

However, as part of the Modern Warfare 2 Week One patch, developer Infinity Ward has now updated the benchmark with “more accurate screen fps readings.” Of course, CapFrameX reports that the tool “looks much better now” and the results are consistent with its own frame rate measurements.

Now it’s time to determine the best Modern Warfare 2 setup for your gaming PC, given the new accuracy of the test. Just make sure your installation meets the Modern Warfare 2 system requirements before you begin.
