Qualcomm Incorporated, as part of its Qualcomm Wireless Reach initiative, along with Acer, Claro, Embratel, Calriz, and Instituto Crescer, announced the launch of ASCON – Students Always Connected. In this first phase, the initiative received the support of SME de Goiania. , will be useful to students of the 7th grade of elementary school.
ASCON will supply approximately 100 students and teachers with Acer Chromebook511 laptops equipped with a Snapdragon 7C processor. These always connected laptops (ACPC) are available for the first time in Brazil. This new category of PC, with features specifically designed for educational markets, is equipped with LTE 4G mobile connectivity for seamless Internet connectivity.
André Teixeira, Senior Business Manager at ACER, explains: “At Acer, we know that our devices are a window through which students can see the world, learn, grow and change their lives often. We have a great responsibility to limit our technology to the infrastructure or regions covered by wired networks or Wi-Fi. That is why we have taken the lead and are launching our first 4G connected laptop in this project, which will make connectivity and internet even easier for students, collaborating with the future and development of the country.”
There are still young people in Brazil who report that they do not have basic computer skills. ASCON aims to bridge this gap and reimagine how students learn and educators teach, bringing the modern classroom to life and creating a world where all students are intelligently connected from home, class or anywhere.
“At Qualcomm, we believe that education is a key driver of economic growth and professional development. We are excited to bring mobile-enabled laptops to schools in Brazil, enabling students to enjoy a quality education wherever they are, regardless of their economic background,” said Francisco Soares, Vice President, Government Affairs, Qualcomm Serviços de Telecomunicações Ltda.
One of the main goals of the program is to create a digital inclusion environment where students have the necessary tools to reach their full potential. Through ASCON, students will be able to increase their digital literacy by taking advantage of ACPC use at home and outside of the classroom and therefore the enhanced learning they provide.
“Technology and connectivity are providing subsidies to teachers so they can deliver better classes and students can advance in the education system, becoming future-prepared citizens. Embratel is very pleased to be part of this project, which should bring very important results for Brazil,” says Maria Teresa Lima, Executive Director of Embratel Government Relations.
In order to improve the digital skills of students and teachers, they will participate in in-person and remote workshops, as well as have access to mentoring and tutoring offered by Instituto Crescer. The seminars will cover topics such as cybersecurity, cyberbullying and emotional security, the metaverse and innovative technologies, artificial intelligence and new technologies in society, the basics of research and programming.
“In a more connected world, it is important to improve and develop digital skills so that students can take advantage of all the opportunities that digital technologies and connectivity have to offer. When educators try new ways of teaching, they provide students with unique and innovative opportunities to access and produce knowledge, and this knowledge must be accompanied by an ethic of the proper use of technological resources,” explains Instituto Crescer Director, Dr. Luciana. Allan.
The program currently covers three schools in Goiânia, but will expand in the coming years. “Goiania is investing strategically in the use of technology in the classroom. Now, in collaboration with promising companies, we will provide training for students and teachers using mobile devices. This innovation will more and more be a defining part of the school routine,” said Wellington Bessa, Minister of Education of Goiania.
ASCON is the result of a collaboration between Qualcomm Wireless Reach, ACER, Claro, Embratel, Calriz, Instituto Crescer and the Goiania Municipal Minister of Education (SME de Goiania).
