Destiny 2 UI for buffs and debuffs needs a major update, players say

Guardians take to Reddit to share their frustrations with a long-running Destiny 2 UI element that is becoming cumbersome as FPS games continue to add and iterate on buffs and debuffs via mods, skins, shards, weapons, and more. and armor.

The problem occurs when the player has multiple advantages or disadvantages at the same time. Usually when the player executes only a few of these modifiers, they can be seen in the bottom left of the screen. In many cases, they can also see the time remaining before the buff or debuff is applied.

As Destiny 2 has become more complex, introducing several new buffs and debuffs with the Arc, Solar, and Void revisions, players can often customize their characters and gear to activate multiple buffs at once. Or, in cases like raids, Guardians can sometimes take multiple debuffs when performing certain actions. This information helps players make decisions in the game. For example, a player enhanced with Devour could risk dying, knowing that Devour will restore his health if he takes damage.

Unfortunately, Destiny 2’s interface doesn’t seem to be designed for players to support many buffs and debuffs at the same time. The screen limits how much you can display at once, and when the UI runs out of space, older pros and cons fade from view to make way for others. This means that players sometimes need clarification on what buffs or debuffs currently apply to them, which affects their gameplay decisions.

Players have offered many options to fix the problem. Some have speculated that Bungie could increase the allotted screen space to allow for more status effects. Others want the effects to appear as visual cues on the weapons or abilities they apply to. The downside is that too many hints can create additional UI clutter that designers try to avoid. Some players have also suggested that they would like to see the advantages listed separately from the disadvantages.

While this has been a long-standing UI issue, it is becoming increasingly onerous due to the ever-increasing number of ways players can activate these buffs and debuffs. Players using our guides to the Best Destiny 2 Hunter Builds, Best Destiny 2 Titan Builds, and Best Destiny 2 Warlock Builds can see these issues firsthand, as many of these top-tier builds include a chain buff for maximum damage.

It looks like Bungie has yet to fix this issue. Content updates, such as the upcoming Lightfall expansion and the Strand subclass, as well as immediate overhauls for the current season, have likely taken precedence over overhauling the main game interface. However, as the game evolves, Bungie will want to find a way to help players get the information they need to make better in-game decisions.
