First year with the Xbox Series console

Exactly one year has passed since the current generation of Xbox consoles entered the world market, including the Czech one. Unfortunately, there is still a shortage of supplies, when demand exceeds supply, however, who really wanted it or just made a reservation on time, he probably reached the console by this time. Of course, there are more stakeholders who are responding to, among other things, rumors of great performance or console features, or the benefits of a Game Pass subscription, or the increasingly powerful exclusive games that are gradually coming to this platform. According to available unofficial statistics, 8.44 million Xbox Series X and (fully digital) Xbox Series S consoles have been sold worldwide today.

While the first year of a new platform tends to be a little weaker for big new games as a strong customer base is formed and developers are still learning how to work with the new hardware, the Xbox series certainly wasn’t dull during its first 12 months. . Personally, I’ve been eyeing the beauties of England in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla since day one, enjoying the flash recording, high resolution, and reliable fluency. Among other launch games, I’ve been blown away by Tetris Effect, which delivers incredible audio-visual ecstasy on a normal TV (or monitor). Similarly, Ori 2 at 120Hz or 6K was a real shock. However, if we look objectively at the games in the first year Xbox series, the Metacritic rating looks like this:

The best games for the Xbox Series according to Metacritic:

  1. Hades (93/100)
  2. Forza Horizon 5 (92)
  3. Microsoft Flight Simulator (92)
  4. It takes two (89)
  5. Tony Hawk professional skater 1+2 (89)
  6. Tetris Effect: Connected (88)
  7. F1 2021 (88)
  8. Psychonauts 2 (87)
  9. Hitman 3 (87)
  10. Door of death (87)

Of course, some might argue that certain games on this list were also released for the past generation or for other platforms in general, but that doesn’t change the fact that they look and perform significantly better on the Xbox Series than on the Xbox Series. Xbox one. Also, some of these games, on the other hand, are exclusive to Xbox on console platforms (Microsoft has a policy of releasing all of its games on PC), including two of the top three games. We’ve also seen these games from day one “free” as part of a generous Xbox Game Pass subscription. And Halo Infinite is still waiting for us this year.

Fast Resume is a Key Benefit of Xbox

Game Pass subscriptions are usually the strongest selling point for people buying a new Xbox. However, I have to say that in a year, with all new and old consoles, the quick resume feature will come to me as the most demanding player (playing/finishing a lot of games) in the entire Xbox Series ecosystem. Perhaps everyone today plays more than one game – it can be a story for one and at the same time another for multiplayer with friends. The ability to instantly return to different games without having to restart them from the main menu is extremely pleasant and completely spoiled me – platforms without it already seem “backward” to me. Part of the comfort of the new console is also the almost absolute silence of the machine during operation, which competitors cannot boast of yet.

Xbox on the rise

As we recently wrote, the Xbox Series is the fastest selling Xbox console. So it’s clear that Microsoft has clearly started this generation, and the only question is how far and where the success of this console will go. It would be good and beneficial for all players if the conditions between individual competing platforms were as balanced as possible, because only this will really force each of them to do their best and meet the players as much as possible – to offer content, services and prices.

Alone among my friends, both gamers and non-gamers, I’m seeing a decent increase in Xbox owners, whether the “big” option is more demanding, or the extremely economical, smaller version with a Game Pass subscription that parents often buy for kids (but I’ve seen and serious gamers) who purchased “Sko” “as a second console” to another mainstream platform). Of course I would love more great games, I’m personally happy with my first year as an Xbox Series owner and I know promising games big and small are on the way, be it Halo Infinite (multiplayer beta was great), Stalker 2, Starfield or Skorn.
