Intel Arc A770 GPU issue causes memory speed discrepancy

intel arc a770 GPU it’s a serious budget contender, but some users are reporting slower-than-expected “Limited Edition” memory speeds. While Team Blue’s flagship variant should have a clock speed advantage over the A750 and A770 8GB, the GPU seems to deliver comparable results to its Alchemist counterparts.

As Videocardz points out, users of the Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition GPU are posting incorrect VRAM specifications on Github. According to the general statistics, the memory frequency of the video card is 2000 MHz, not 2187 MHz, and the bandwidth is limited to 512 GB / s. Statistics provided by GPU-Z, but the problem also occurs with other tools.

Videocardz notes that the issue isn’t widely documented yet, so it’s unclear if it’s an Intel API bug or a hardware defect in the A770. Techpowerup, the experts at GPU-Z, are currently investigating the issue, so hopefully this won’t tarnish GPU’s “Limited Edition” branding with new meaning for long.

Spec shenanigans aside, Intel’s Arc A7 ratings in reviews show that the Arc A750 and A770 look like solid budget GPUs. Of course, they don’t pose a distant threat to the Nvidia RTX 4090, as the flagship isn’t really in the running for the best graphics cards. However, trading blows with the RTX 3060 goes some way to earning its place in the table of best GPUs, especially considering its price and the capabilities of its gaming PC.

If Intel Arc helps take the best budget gaming PC options to the next level, the GPU brand could have a future beyond Arc Alchemist. Team Blue has previously said it will release a new graphics card every year until 2025 if all goes well, so perhaps successors like Battlemage will eventually enter the battlefield to challenge Nvidia and AMD.
