Intel Raptor Lake now it’s making a big splash on the gaming CPU scene, and the flagship chip has set a world record for speed. While AMD previously ruled clockwise, overclocking enthusiasts managed to squeeze 8.8 GHz out of the i9-13900K.

Intel’s Raptor Lake record benchmarks came from Elmor, which was able to hit a high frequency of 8812.85 MHz using an overclocked i9-13900K (via Videocardz). Of course, even if you’re using the best gaming PC, you’ll definitely struggle to hit those frequency heights because enthusiasts use liquid nitrogen instead of a traditional AIO cooler.

fastest gaming processor the record was previously held by the AMD FX 8370, a high-performance chip released in 2014. While you’d expect a modern processor to outperform an older version, it took eight years for the competitor to claim the title. something that adds respect to Intel’s recently won streaks.

Naturally, speed alone isn’t the best gaming processor, and the Elmor’s credentials are more of a sporting achievement than a performance advantage. That said, experimenting with overclocking helps to show off the chip’s high-end capabilities, though it doesn’t necessarily help you boost frame rates when using the Nvidia RTX 4090.

Intel may be first out, but AMD’s Zen 4 chips are due on September 27. So while Team Blue seems to be in the lead at the moment, contenders like the Ryzen 9 7950X are likely up to the challenge.
