Overview of Total War: Warhammer III

Watching the various discussions, demos and player opinions has been my daily bread as I eagerly awaited the arrival of the new Total War: Warhammer. Tato withThis era as a whole is by far my most popular strategy game, and the third installment improves upon and builds on the foundations that helped create the previous two installments. Believe me, it’s worth it.

Races and changes

Let’s start with racing. At release, we have seven main (and one unique) playable factions, each of which is not only visually different. The Kislev Empire, known as the realm of the Snow Queen. Beyond the Mountains of Sorrow and the Steppes lies the mythical kingdom of Cathay. Ogres are a race of great humanoids, harsh, cruel and always hungry. The mighty four representing the gods of chaos: Nurgle, Khorne, Slaanesh, Tzeentch. They are also a bonus. Legion of Chaos under the direction of Demon Prince. A unique faction that is a combination of four great powers, but at the same time retains its uniqueness.

The user interface is clear and looks clearer than in previous parts. If we look at the new mechanics, then the main improvements include the so-called “quick deal”, which speeds up diplomacy and recruiting allies: it allows you to recruit from another faction, which will help you if you have weak points in units. I have personally used it, for example, to get units capable of ranged combat while playing as the Chaos Legion, which I equipped mainly for close combat.

Prologue

The prologue was a nice touch for me as a returning player of the series. In it, you will learn all the new and necessary mechanics, which in some cases may not sound very fun when you already know how it works – but don’t be discouraged! You will be accompanied by a story that is fully voiced and gradually fully immerses you in the story, where you will also learn pieces of interesting information for other campaigns.

New players who are the target of the prologue will learn the basics of the game. From combat tips to navigating systems around the world like skills and upgrades. As a new player, there is still a lot of information to absorb, but this multi-battle mini-campaign will give you plenty of time to look around.

Campaign

At the beginning of the game, you will learn that this is the center of the campaign. Ursun, the bear god of Kislev and the demon prince Be’lakor. Your goal is to enter the four unique realms of each god and steal their power. This will give you the strength you need to open your own portal, through which you will finally reach Be’lakor and Ursun himself. How it all works out is up to you.

While the Vortex campaign didn’t disappoint us in the previous installment, I think The Realm of Chaos takes it up a notch. Its visual processing and the unique mechanics you’ll encounter in each world will keep you glued to the screen for hours. A slight downside to the campaign is that I wanted the interactions between the characters to not be as generic and similar as in the prologue. Campaign dialogue is less expressive and repetitive. But it’s not something so negative that it obviously spoils the game itself.

My favorite faction

Every episode has a favorite for me. You try everything, but you still can’t afford it. This job was different. During my first forays into the Warhammer series, I fell in love with the dwarves for their durability, later it was the skaven due to the number of units on screen plus the unique undercity play style… and now the Chaos Legion. The way you can customize and create your own demon prince that gradually gets stronger and stronger… you just feel like he is turning into a demon king. Or rather, a demon god.

In the campaign, I chose to dedicate myself to only one Chaos God, which gave me access to Khorne units: they gave me access to the “bleed” mechanic that rewards you for consistently winning battles, which I took full advantage of. The playstyle of most of these units is entirely melee based, you don’t have as many strategic placement options as a ranged attacker. So I learned the tactics of direct attack with the strongest units: because of this, the fights were fierce, and I felt like a real demonic lord of chaos.

The moment when I really felt the extent of my demonic army’s fury came when I invaded the elven army capital: these beautiful forests and wooden buildings looked so peaceful, but then suddenly my demon army, which swept through the enemies like a stream, rushed through them while my Demon Lord at max level was spewing fire from the back line. The peaceful settlement has become a new home of chaos and destruction.

Consideration

Total War: Warhammer III

We like

  • New mechanics
  • Great story
  • Great for beginners
  • Uninterrupted game launch
  • visual processing
  • Czech subtitles

it worries us

  • It would be an exaggeration to call the game DLC.
  • Repetitive dialogue
