You’ll soon be able to replace the custom Steam Deck launcher even more easily than before, as Valve apparently plans to add alternative loading screens to its own points store. Additionally, it appears that the company is integrating controls into the device options, which should make the process of switching between animations much easier.
Twitter post by pavel jundik, which manages the SteamDB database, shows that your Steam Points can be spent to purchase a custom Steam Deck starter movie. As shown in the attached screenshot, the above entry in the JavaScript file implies that you will also be able to change the opening animation in the settings.
Valve recently officially started supporting custom Steam Deck loading screens by adding storage for animations on the laptop. However, this decision shows that the company could be interested in actively supporting the creators of these animations, as well as giving users more things to buy with their Steam Points. For those of you who aren’t too happy about buying them, it looks like the current way of doing things isn’t going away any time soon.
Customizing Steam Deck loading screens is pretty popular right now, especially thanks to a recent update. Even before that, there were plenty of games available, like the one dedicated to the opening of Futurama, or the nostalgia-filled gaming startup Monkey Island. And let’s not forget the X-rated animation you probably won’t want to show your grandparents.
We’ll have to wait and see if Valve continues this leaked feature. For those who use the best Steam Deck or are willing to buy any number of device accessories, purchasing a custom loading screen can easily be considered a good way to support the community.
