After all, Nvidia DLSS 3.0 may not require an RTX 4000 GPU.

The sheer performance of the RTX 4000 series becomes reason enough to choose the latest Team Green GPUs, but Nvidia DLSS 3.0, with its new “Frame Generation” features, remains an equally compelling temptation. However, while the company insists the technology will only be compatible with Lovelace’s pixel pushers, it may not require a new graphics card after all.

Reddit user JusDax spent some time with a new version of Cyberpunk 2077 with Nvidia DLSS 3.0 and claims to have unlocked the framer feature for older RTX GPUs. They say that all they had to do was “add a config file to remove the VRAM overhead in Cyberpunk”, after which they enjoyed around 80fps on the RTX 2070.

While JusDax rightly celebrates this simple way to increase framerates without using a better graphics card, it’s quick to warn that the experience isn’t perfect. Its redesign appears to be causing “frame drops and instability,” likely due to the 2000-series card not having the new optical flow accelerator found on models like the RTX 4090.

Given the lack of video evidence, we have to take JusDax’s claims here with a healthy dose of salt, but hopefully this may indicate that Nvidia’s DLSS 3.0 rule, which only works on RTX 4000 GPUs, might be around for a short time. . As we noted in our GeForce RTX 4090 test, this technology is truly impressive and would be great if used across all generations of GeForce graphics cards.
