Co-op zombie game Back 4 Blood is now getting its massive October update, and the first thing you’ll probably notice are the new Halloween decorations around Fort Hope. But pumpkin lanterns aren’t the only thing that’s changed: Back 4 Blood’s October update includes all new features and a host of fixes and improvements.
First, there’s a new set of UI elements to give you a better idea of when a horde is approaching or attacking your party. New alert icons will let you know if you’re being attacked by a normal horde and how long that attack will last, or tell you when a timed horde appears with a gradually filling bar. You’ll also see a heartbeat indicator when an endless horde spawns at the end of a level, as well as a horde waypoint indicating where the horde is coming from.
The October update also adds matchmaking for No Hope difficulty, Iron Man’s hard mode introduced with the Tunnels of Terror expansion in April. Until now, you had to enter this mode with a carefully selected team, ready to go all the way in one go. Now Back 4 Blood will match those desperate runs, but be prepared to feel the pain.
You’ll also find seasonal activities at Fort Hope, as well as several seasonal caravans that run throughout October and part of November. If you complete them, you will get exclusive Halloween-themed skins, so hurry up and sign up.
As mentioned above, this update also includes a long list of fixes, tweaks, and improvements. Scavenger abilities have had some changes: for example, Heng now spawns an additional 10 food, heals additional trauma while eating, and benefits from the effects of food picked up by other scavengers in the party. Jim’s primary weapon has been replaced with a bolt-action Phoenix 350L sniper rifle.
