Nvidia RTX 4090 Ti reportedly canceled due to merger

If you were hoping to get an Nvidia RTX 4090 Ti graphics card in the near future, you may want to reconsider your plans as Team Green is canceling its potentially more powerful Lovelace GPU for now. It’s not without reason though, as reports suggest the potential RTX 4000 flagship in its current state is likely to melt down.

According to sources close to Moore’s Law Is Dead, the RTX 4090 Ti is simply “too much for now” and won’t hit the market anytime soon to claim the title of the best graphics card on the green team. This task will be led by the RTX 4090, which is expected to launch soon.

The reasons for the cancellation, again according to the same source, are that the RTX 4000 GPU “tripped the switches, melted the power supplies, and sometimes melted itself.” Naturally, no one wants this to happen inside their gaming PC, but the green team still has plenty of time to fix these (pretty serious) issues and bring the RTX 4090 Ti to market in the future.

MLID’s source also claims that the RTX 4090 Ti consumed around “600-700 W” and required two 16-pin PCIe slots to satisfy its thirst for power. In addition to its monstrous power consumption, the GPU is also something of a chunky four-slot monster and requires the motherboard to be mounted on it rather than being traditionally mounted.

The arrival of the RTX 4090 Ti may very much depend on how competitive AMD’s RDNA 3 GPUs are with Nvidia’s offerings, and the company is certainly looking to maintain as strong a lead as possible in the pixel push forward.
