More than a year after its E3 2021 announcement, Capcom will soon release Resident Evil Village DLC, featuring protagonist Ethan Winters’ Shadows of Rose story code, a third-person mode, and a gameplay update. The Mercenaries. which allows players to embody Chris Redfield, Karl Heisenberg or Lady Dimitrescu. The expansion director says that players will be able to access 20 unlockables in The Mercenaries additional orders, including stages and abilities. And while the team had to downscale one of their most popular characters a bit to make it playable in the game, Resident Evil Village fans will still be able to play as Lady Di scattering the 9-foot furniture around one of the game’s best horror for PC in 2022.
In an interview with Polygon, Winters Expansion game director Kento Kinoshita shared some new details about the expansion, specifically the additional The Mercenaries controls, which add new content to The Mercenaries game mode.
Kinoshita said that the developers focused on giving each of the new characters a “special look”. Each one has a unique playstyle that encourages players to try them all. Redfield will work with firearms and close combat, while Heisenberg will use magnetic force. Lady Dimitrescu will look imposing due to her large size and her ability to throw furniture, inspired by the scene where she throws a dresser in the main game.
Adding these characters to The Mercenaries, at least in part in response to player feedback on the beloved characters, will add more variety to a mode where players are currently limited to fighting hordes as Ethan.
While Lady Di is still depicted as having her imposing stature, according to Kinoshita, the developers scaled her down a bit, but only to make it playable within the game’s specifications.
Although all three characters seem powerful, players will still need to chain attacks to achieve high scores. They will also be able to purchase item, weapon, and skill upgrades to further enhance their gameplay.
According to Kinoshita, the game update ends with 20 new unlockables, including new stages and abilities. The developer suggests that it’s worth playing and mentions the LZ responder, which is currently difficult to integrate into the game, suggesting it might be easier with one of the new characters.
The Resident Evil Village Winters DLC expansion will cost around $20 for players who already own the base game and will release on October 28, just in time for Halloween. The DLC includes a third-person mode for the base game, additional Shadows of Rose game content, and The Mercenaries additional controls update. Players who don’t own the game can purchase the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, which releases the same day, for around $50.
