The main Roblox hack is back in a new form, forcing innocent gamers to face bans from entering and playing games designed to exploit the platform.
The exploit is launched by certain games, and they usually look like normal games on a sandbox gaming platform. Players entering these games, which tend to promise encrypted content, are prompted to enter letters corresponding to on-screen commands.
However, the sequence of these letter presses causes the player to type words that violate the platform’s Terms of Service, resulting in instant bans from Roblox’s auto-moderation tools.
These exploits are similar to the Crosswoods Roblox hack that the platform encountered in July, which resulted in players being banned after playing certain games. The games spoofed Roblox chat and triggered text phrases that spit out inappropriate words, resulting in an instant ban via auto-moderation. The team behind the hack specifically targeted Twitch streamers to force them to play these games, resulting in content creators being banned from the platform during live streaming.
These hackers, whether they belong to the same group or different groups, also target the broadcasters. Content creator by name fallen synapses were the first to report the exploit by posting a Twitch clip of them entering a game called The Silence. [BETA] by EdGames11334. After a short blurb, the game prompts the player to play by pressing a certain letter, then follows more printed prompts to trick the player into accepting things like howlers. When typed in sequence, these letters form words that trigger Roblox’s automatic moderation.
YouTuber SharkBlox discussed the vulnerability in a video uploaded on October 5. In the video, the content creator is using another Roblox account to access another game that appears to be causing problems. Fortunately, the YouTuber manages to figure out how to perform the exploit and is therefore able to prevent it.
Although Roblox removed both games from the site, it does not appear that the company has taken additional concrete steps to help protect innocent gamers from being banned from the platform.
Although these games initially appear legit, players may encounter signs that the creators may not be the true Roblox developers, as they may be using new Roblox accounts or accounts with limited Roblox history. In these cases, the attackers likely created or obtained accounts simply to create games that perform exploits.
The new exploit doesn’t seem as serious as the Crosswoods one, as FallenSynapse faced a one-day ban. However, if you are banned after visiting such a game and you feel the ban is unfair, you can appeal via the form on the Roblox website. Be sure to provide a detailed description of what happened. As long as Roblox is aware of the exploit, innocent players who are banned should be unbanned. However, it may take a while for the Roblox team to respond to you and your ban may be lifted the moment you receive a response.
