Windows 11 2022 update results in slower performance on some systems

Windows 11 2022 Update, also known as “22H2”, is slowly rolling out to supported systems around the world and promises to bring new features and improvements to the operating system. Unfortunately, it appears that a bug in this latest version is causing performance issues on some PCs, resulting in slow file transfers and possibly downloads.

Microsoft’s Ned Pyle details the Windows 11 2022 Update issue in a support article on the company’s Community Center (via PCWorld). Pyle says that users may experience slower file transfer speeds when “copying large files from a remote computer to a Windows 11 computer,” with speeds dropping “by as much as 40 percent.”

This affects all transfers made using the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol, but it can also affect the speed at which you can access files on the remote computer. Pyle says Microsoft can’t yet provide an ETA for a permanent fix, but a workaround is available in a support article.

This is not the first time that a Windows 11 update has caused unwanted complications in the operating system, as Microsoft unintentionally blocked some users from accessing their PCs with an earlier security patch.
