Ragnarök Online, one of Brazil’s most iconic MMORPGs, has just completed 18 years in the country, and to remember and celebrate its trajectory, Level Up has hosted several promotions throughout the month for the community and fans of the game that has marked generations. .
The celebration began at Taverna Medieval with an in-person event open to the community in São Paulo after two years without meetings due to the pandemic. The players and staff of the iconic MMO have met to talk about updates, expansions, gaming news and, of course, to quench their anguish. Influencer also took part in them Silencea Valorant commentator who is a well-known talent in the community and has close ties to the MMORPG for Meet & Greet.
The event was held in a thematic setting of a restaurant called “Dungeon” and decorated with the theme Ragnarok Online 18 years old, which featured a personalized menu including game-related food and drink. On this day, there was also an inexpensive cosplay competition with medals for participants.
MMORPG has also held several online promotions such as cosplay due to be announced on October 7th, fan art controversy, and of course maintenance, server news, promo ticket, and in-game events such as Melão Festival, Refining Event, Nova Kachua and the highly anticipated Turtle and Vampire Illusion update, which brings several new features and qualities of life to the game. Last Wednesday, the 28th was the Ragnaparty, a mixed event for press, content creators and guests with a special performance for the community. A lively celebration took place at the Kat Club on Rua Augusta in Sao Paulo.
Live is still available here.
Glaucio Marquez, CEO of Level Up Brasil and LATAM, kicked off the party by looking back at the history of games and gaming companies: “Ragnarok online was the first game completely localized in Brazil, a game that mixed courage Gravitywhich today is warpportal, and Level Up invested in the Brazilian market, with great determination and competence. Ragnarok It’s one of the few games from that era that is still alive today, with an active community and very vivid memories.”
In 2004, in most homes in Brazil, the connection was still not broadband, it was dial-up, and partnerships were created to distribute the game Level Up, such as the famous magazines and cereals of the time, which came with a CD, and then a DVD to have more options. “So, in addition to being generational, it also marked the evolution of technology in games over these 18 years, and we understand that this is not just another game, this is part of a life where people have made friends, got married, had relationships, made connections, and this is very good for all of us,” Glaucio says.

The birthday party was also an achievement for the professionals behind the game. Melissa Morato, Market Specialist at Gravity Inc. started working with Ragnarok online before launching in Brazil, he translated content in 2003 and never imagined that the game would go this far.
“Today I believe that any Brazilian has only two degrees of separation from Ragnarok, this is because it was part of the history of the internet in the country, being the first game completely in Portuguese, with national servers and aimed at the Brazilian public, with real purchases, great partnership and structure. Commercials, for example, did not sell Ragnarok, commercials showed what online play is and how it is possible, in addition to meeting and interacting with people from all over Brazil. So, in over 18 years of playing, I noticed that any Brazilian knows another person who has a history or who has played Ragnarok online up to two degrees. If it’s not your friend, then it’s your friend’s friend, your mom’s hairdresser… always two steps away to connect with the game,” Melissa continues, describing how Ragnarok changed her life: born in the United States, stayed working in Brazil, and married in the year of the game’s release to a colleague who is also the game’s translator, and most of her career is entirely focused on MMORPGs. .
“I hope that in the coming years the game will continue to bring people new memories and stories. Ragnarok it only exists because of the community, connections, jokes, and despite being an older style game than the current ones, it has a lot of options and is very adaptable to different player styles. You make your own game. If you prefer to explore, if you care more about visuals, if you want to be stronger, faster, if you want to be a supporter who helps other people… So this is an actual game, and as long as there are people willing play, Ragnarok will continue to exist,” he adds.
Another well-known specialist in Ragnarok online Kaue, better known as Rufio, product manager at Level Up: “It’s not every day that a game turns 18, it’s not normal, because games die much earlier these days. As we can see, people who work in other gaming sectors, such as mobile, for example, also started in Ragnarok online. Many commentators and League of Legends players have played Ragnarok earlier in their lives, so we see this game being the backbone of the gaming scene in Brazil, as well as the founder of the esports scene with international championships.”
As for the future of the game, Rufio says that there is still a lot of content to release, and for him that makes the job even more exciting: “I want the players to have that desire. Many players are returning Ragnarok for nostalgia, but always bringing some friend, acquaintance, girlfriend, someone who also creates this branch of new players. And the appearance of new players in an 18-year-old game is something sensational, and it intrigues me, because as a player I know how the old player thinks, what he wants, what he does not like, and this also inspires me. to provide new content to these new players.”
