When Overwatch went offline on October 3, which preceded the release of the highly anticipated Overwatch 2, some gamers who didn’t know what to do during the downtime turned to the Roblox Overwatch clone to satisfy their desire to play the popular hero shooter. . . Overblox, Activision Blizzard’s take on the cult classic Roblox sandbox game, is similar to Overwatch, or at least as similar as it sounds, with less faithful graphics, blocky characters, and far fewer features.
In Overblox, Robloxians can play characters like Reaper, Tracer, and Mercy. The game looks and works similar to Overwatch, in a way. It’s an alternative to Overwatch, just like watching a pirated movie shot in a theater with an iPhone camera is like watching the same thing as going to the movies. However, the game seems to be quite popular as a free version of Overwatch. Overblox was released on Roblox in 2018, and since then, Roblox has played the game over 4.7 million times.
Overwatch isn’t the first game to be honored with a Roblox clone, as there are several Roblox games that are basically fan-made versions of popular shooters. With titles like Counter Blox (a CS:GO knockoff) and Fortblox (a Fortnite clone), these versions of the games share many of the same basic elements of the game they copy, but lack its expanded features.
According to GamesRadar, even professional gamers have bathed in the stranded waters of Overblox. Official London Spitfire Twitter account posted an image of a member of the SparkR team playing around with the caption: “We’re doing a great job with this whole ‘no Overwatch’ issue, thanks for asking.” The tweet exceeded 7,000 likes.
Overwatch Content Creator Aquamarine posted an in-game image Overblox on Twitter, saying “I thought Overwatch was down, but it’s still here,” then tweeted an Overblox gameplay video. Aquamarine’s initial tweet garnered over 8,000 likes.
Overblox wasn’t the only way fans celebrated the game’s final sunset moments, but there are new things about us. Thanks heroes! See you on October 4! and “see you soon on the other side.”
