The Nvidia RTX 4090 promises to be the most powerful GeForce card in history, and everything indicates that it will become the new king of the graphic jungle.
As the flagship of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4000, the RTX 4090 represents the best of Team Green’s new Pixel processors based on Ada Lovelace’s new architecture. Unfortunately, more power comes with high prices, and you’ll have to pay a high price to get your hands on this competing graphics card.
To help you check out the latest Nvidia RTX 4090 news, we’ve rounded up everything we know about release date, price, specs, and SKUs.
Here’s everything we know about the Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU:
- Nvidia RTX 4090 release date: October 12, 2022
- Nvidia RTX 4090 Price: $1599 / £1679
- Nvidia RTX 4090 Specifications: 24GB GDDRX VRAM, 16384 CUDA cores
Nvidia RTX 4090 release date
The Nvidia RTX 4090 release date falls on October 12, and the flagship RTX 4000 graphics card is the first of the new GeForce series available to buy.
Pre-orders aren’t available yet, but you can sign up to be notified when a Founders Edition card pre-order becomes available on Nvidia’s website. Stay tuned for our review which should help you decide if it’s worth taking a bite out of your bank account.
Nvidia RTX 4090 Price
The Nvidia RTX 4090 is priced at $1,599 / £1,679, making Lovelace’s flagship more expensive than its Ampere predecessor. However, it is not the only one that commands a higher price compared to its previous generation counterpart, as the RTX 4080 also commands a higher asking price.
Unfortunately, this MSRP only applies to the Founders Edition RTX 4090, which means we can expect Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte AIB models to cost even more.
Nvidia RTX 4090 Specifications
The Nvidia RTX 4090 spec features several updates over its predecessor, including higher clock speeds, more CUDA cores, and new 3rd-gen ray tracing cores and 4th-gen Tensor cores.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 | Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 | |
Video memory (GDDR6X) | 24GB | 24GB |
---|---|---|
speed up the clock | 2.52GHz | 1.70GHz |
Basic Clock | 2.23GHz | 1.40GHz |
CUDA kernels | 16,384 | 10,496 |
Ray tracing kernels | third generation | Second generation |
tensor nuclei | Fourth generation | third generation |
tire width | 384 bit | 384 bit |
The RTX 4090 will also feature a 12-pin PCIe Gen 5 power connector capable of delivering 600W over a single cable. This means you may need an adapter for compatibility as most power supplies use a 6+2 pin configuration.
Nvidia RTX 4090 Benchmarks
Nvidia’s internal benchmarks of the RTX 4090 claim that the new flagship graphics card is “2-4x faster than the 3090 Ti”, but independent reviews should paint a realistic picture of performance.
Nvidia DLSS 3.0 will likely help give the flagship RTX 4000 an edge over the current king of GPUs, but early Geekbench tests show the RTX 4090 to be 60% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti. Once again, we will reveal the true capabilities of a graphics card when we get to test it, as raw power measurements are not necessarily a true measure of performance.
