Is it worth buying the Secretlab Titan 2022 gaming chair?

I’ve spent countless hours sitting in my Secretlab Titan 2020 SoftWeave Fabric gaming chair and even after all that time, it’s still a great seat. However, a part of me has always wondered what I’m missing out on by not upgrading to the company’s latest models. Now, after spending time getting to know the Titan 2022 Evo series, I’m wondering if the upgrade is worth it for current owners.

Secretlab very kindly sent me their new Soda Purple for me to review and I have to say I really like its pastel shade based on the Pantone Color of the Year. It’s not as understated as the original that matched the monochromatic hue of my gaming keyboard and mouse. However, I find that the complementary color of the wood on my gaming desk helps the purple Titan 2022 stand out, breathing new life into it. to my configuration.

So it certainly looks good, but as beautiful as this chair and other Secretlab chairs are, they are designed for sitting, not looking. Fortunately, the same praise we gave the leatherette upholstery in our 2022 Secretlab Titan Evo series review for its comfort and quality also applies to this SoftWeave Plus fabric model.

Since Titan 2020 continues to be a standout offering, I’m glad Secretlab hasn’t decided to reinvent what already works, but rather look for ways to build on and improve upon existing designs. The biggest change for me was the magnetic memory foam head pillow, which not only looks better without the awkward straps, but is also much more comfortable. The cooling gel coat was also a boon during the recent heat wave, but I can’t say how much it will help keep you cool during a match of Overwatch 2.

The rest of the improvements found in the 2022 Titan Evo series are certainly welcome, but they don’t necessarily feel transformative. Secretlab claims its new SoftWeave Plus fabric upholstery is “softer, more breathable, and even more durable,” but I personally don’t feel a significant difference between the two generations. That said, that’s not to say it’s not one of those, plus the 2020 series was already so good that it’d be hard to imagine notable changes that weren’t drastically different from the original design.

Additionally, there is a four-position LADAPT lumbar system that has height adjustment in addition to the depth adjustment seen on the previous model. I can see why Secretlab added this as it helps more people get the perfect level of support, but the original cushion was already in the perfect position for me right out of the box. I don’t necessarily find it any tighter or more comfortable here than in my old chair, since it’s in a similar position, but your mileage may vary depending on your height and build.

You can now replace the all-metal 4D armrests with Secretlab’s CloudSwap system, which comes in handy if you want to customize your gaming chair with an extra touch. Personally, the pre-packaged matte black suits me very well, but it’s still nice to have the option.

After testing the last two generations of Secretlab thrones, I can safely say that no matter which one you choose, you’ll feel like you’re sitting in the best gaming chair on the market. I certainly prefer the 2022 Titan Evo series to its predecessors, but not to the point of calling the older Omega or Titan models redundant.

So if you’re happy with your 2020 throne, I highly recommend sticking with it (it does come with a five-year warranty, after all). However, if you’re looking for a new spot to park your back in front of your gaming PC, I’d recommend going for the 2022 Titan Evo series if you can afford it.
