The success of Elden Ring cannot be underestimated. It’s a huge success for publisher Bandai Namco, and developer FromSoftware has completely overshadowed their previous work and created one of the best RPGs out there. So what will Bandai Namco want to bring to the West from Japan next? Well, it seems that the company has big plans.
Discussions about the success of the open world game Elden Ring and Bandai Namco’s desire to go further into the West emerged from a new interview with Bandai Namco Europe CEO Arno Muller, who states:
“Bandai Namco Europe is focused on developing its own IP and increasing portfolio weight in the West as part of the Bandai Namco Group, but there is so much great content coming out of Japan that we are very excited for the next few years and I would like to say that Elden Ring is just the beginning,” Mueller said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz.
Muller adds that FromSoftware’s work on Elden Ring exceeded Bandai Namco’s expectations, and presumably fans’ expectations, as the publisher expected the game to be a hit, but no more than that: 16 million copies sold in less than a year.
“We are very proud of the quality of the game, we are very happy with the relationship with FromSoftware. We work with FromSoftware on the Dark Souls series, but Elden Ring takes the genre to the next level… The open world, the accessibility of the game, the depth clearly exceeded our expectations as well as those of the fans. ”
Even outside of the realm of fantasy games, Elden Ring has been huge, and Bandai Namco clearly wants to make sure all subsequent titles from Japan have the same worldwide success. It’s also worth noting that while Bandai Namco released Elden Ring worldwide, developer FromSoftware was responsible for releasing it in Japan.
