Terraria’s Labor of Love update 1.4.4 is here, and one of the funniest innovations introduced in the latest patch for one of the best creation games is the fully flyable drone. The Kwad Racer drone is a fast, flying thing that can really get around the map, if you can get a grip on its responsive controls. Of course, someone who’s had a bit more time to practice is Re-Logic artist Jim ‘Jaxrud’ Kjexrud, and he’s showing off his skills to fans.
Kwad Racing Drone it can be bought from Cyborg for 10 gold after defeating Plantera, so you’ll need to go through several Terraria bosses before you can get your hands on one. Additionally, Cyborg offers an accessory called fpv goggles for another 10 gold coins. Using them will allow you to see a “first person view”, essentially having the camera follow your drone while it’s active rather than lock on to your playable character.
Despite looking a bit wide, the drone can traverse one-block spaces, which means many fans of Terraria’s adventure mode are already whispering about the potential for some creative maps that use the drone to navigate complex maze systems. YouTuber BlueJayT Gaming demonstrates the basic construction of the test, which includes various pressure plates used to open the gates of the maze. However, since he is new to piloting a drone, it took him several tries to get his bearings in his creation.
On the other hand, Re-Logic’s Jaxrud showed what a more experienced user can do. In the video on Twitter of him, Jaxrud dances around an airway made of bricks, weaving in and out of small spaces and spinning in the air as he overcomes various obstacles. Responding to BlueJayT’s admiration for his excellent control, Jaksrud notes that “it helps that I’ve outlined how it should work myself,” though he adds, “I’m sure I’ll see clips of people doing amazing things that I could only dream of.” enough.”
