Google has announced that it will shut down its Stadia cloud gaming service in early 2023. It’s a bummer for anyone who buys games and plays on the platform, but Ubisoft says it’s working to soften the blow by developing a way for gamers to Stadia bring your Ubisoft games to pc.
“As Stadia closes on January 18, 2023, we’re excited to announce that we’re working to make the games you own on Stadia available on PC through Ubisoft Connect.” the company says. “We will have more information on specific details as well as the impact on Ubisoft+ subscribers at a later date.”
In other words, if you bought Ubisoft games on Stadia, you can likely transfer those purchases over to the PC version of Ubisoft Connect. That sounds like very good news, and it is, as long as you have a powerful enough PC to run these games. One of the main features Stadia offers is removing the need for a powerful gaming PC, so it goes without saying that most Stadia users probably don’t have a powerful home setup.
So far, Ubisoft has only said that it’s working on making it possible to transfer ownership of the game to PC; other target platforms may be available, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Interestingly, one of the first public tests of the technology that powers Stadia allowed players to try Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for free and play the entire game in a web browser.
