Assassin’s Creed: Mirage portrays protagonist Bashim as a “gangster” who has “mental issues,” according to developer Ubisoft Bordeaux’s art director, as the stealth RPG series leaves Valhalla behind and moves on with Codename Red, Codename Hexe and Assassin’s Creed. : Infinity.
Basim previously appeared as Eivor’s sidekick in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, but will now star in the next Assassin’s Creed: Mirage due out in 2023. The game is set in Baghdad in the 9th century. Assassins also puts more emphasis on stealth gameplay than its RPG-focused predecessors.
The game’s storytelling director, Sara Beaulieu, previously explained how Mirage would draw inspiration from certain elements of Arabic and Islamic folklore, but now Jean-Luc Sala, art director at Ubisoft Bordeaux, has offered more details about Mirage’s character and personality. Bassim. that he would be struggling with a series of internal conflicts.
“At first, he’s overconfident,” Sala says in an interview with the Access the Animus YouTube channel. “He’s a bit cheeky. He’s a street thief. He’s a mobster. Along with his abilities, he also finds out that he has problems: mental issues and doubts about who he really is, and that’s the conflict of the story. His life is going to be a little difficult.” ”.
Mirage follows Basim’s journey from being a poor 17-year-old in Baghdad to joining the Assassins and being mentored by Roshan, voiced by 24, and Star Trek Beyond actor Shohreh Aghdashloo. Beyond the character’s personality, Sala explains some of the key tenets of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed.
“Historical setting, more realistic, less mythology,” says Sala. “Try to remember and celebrate what we love and make it part of the collective memory of what AC is.” Mirage is ahead of Codename Red, which is set in feudal Japan, and the enigmatic Codename Hexe, which potentially focuses on witch trials in 16th-century Europe. Both games will be part of Ubisoft’s long-term Assassin’s Creed: Infinity online hub, which the developer says may also reintroduce special multiplayer modes last used in Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.
