Blizzard wants to do a Fortnite-style Overwatch 2 crossover

Seeing characters like Naruto and Goku in Overwatch may not be as strange as it sounds, as Blizzard management recently expressed interest in collaborating on Overwatch 2 in a similar style to what we’re seeing in other battle royale games, specifically Fortnite. .

Overwatch VP John Spector made the comments in an exclusive interview with Game Informer’s Alex Van Aken, where he discussed alternative ideas the team is considering to generate revenue. In-game advertising, which Meta and several other companies experimented with in early 2022, is a possibility, as is the ability to charge money for Mythic skins. However, Spector said he wanted to try something that would allow the team and other players to explore their interests.

“We’ve seen some really fun examples of games working with other brands or other games,” Spector told Game Informer. “I am a huge fan of anime. I think it’s cool when I see Naruto appear in Fortnite. I don’t even play Fortnite, but that’s cool. And when we look at the Overwatch 2 space, those are the things we want to explore. If and when we do, one of our key values is to do it in a way that fits seamlessly with the Overwatch franchise.”

How this might work in Overwatch 2 is yet to be understood, though Blizzard will likely have to adopt a different model. Where Fortnite has no set playable characters and instead opts for themed skins like Dragon Ball Z skins, Blizzard has built Overwatch around its heroes, their stories, and their unique playstyles.

While Blizzard could just add new heroes, similar to the one-hit Genshin Impact crossover with Horizon Zero Dawn, the depth and attention to detail that goes into each hero makes it feel like it might take more effort than it’s worth. grief.

Either way, expect to see some outside influence on the Battle Pass once Overwatch 2 launches. In the meantime, be sure to check out our Overwatch 2 tier list to pick the best heroes.
