This Steam Deck mod is perfect for hardcore Futurama fans to pay homage to the series. Many of you already know that Valve’s handheld is highly customizable, and this modder replaced the original release with an iconic opening from the beloved sci-fi sitcom.
Over on Reddit, user DerpinHerps not only replaced the loading animation with the recognizable title card from Futurama, but also tweaked it slightly. When the system boots up, the show’s music starts playing with the words “Steam Deck” instead of the cartoon title. But that is not all. The modder also took it upon himself to write his own one-line joke, a trademark intro that cheekily says “Half-Life 3 is not included.”
It’s a bit cliché, yes, but it’s a nice nod to the series. At the same time, it’s also a rather melancholy reminder of the inactivity of one of Valve’s most popular game franchises. DerpinHerps went ahead and made his Steam Deck animation available to others, so please do so for those of you who want to tweak the download to reflect your love of Futurama.
Every day there are more examples of how the Steam Deck can be configured in more ways, demonstrating the versatility of a mobile gaming PC. Another Reddit user recently revealed that he replaced the splash screen with an intro to the first Monkey Island game. Fans of the point-and-click series will no doubt recognize this first appearance from Guybrush Threepwood, but this time demanding that they need a platform.
With the Futurama animation loaded, some of you will probably want to grab the best Steam Deck for a more comfortable viewing experience, boot up a handheld, and then smile at that custom intro. However, you may also be a little sad that we don’t have Half-Life 3 yet.
