Creative director Stephane Boudon Assassin’s Creed Mirageconfirmed that the game was in some ways born from a rib. Assassin’s Creed Valhallaas originally intended to be one DLC The latest installment in the Ubisoft series.
According to Boudon, in the very early stages of development, Mirage was thought of as an expansion to Valhalla, but later Ubisoft saw the potential to create a full-on standalone game, marking a return to the series’ origins.
“Yeah, we started with the idea that there would be a Valhalla DLC on Mirage, and it was very different back then,” Boudon tells Game Rant. “The idea was only viable for a few weeks and remained on paper. In the early stages of development, we decided to do a standalone experiment with a completely new character because we saw all the potential to get back to basics. And it was. It was all pretty quick.”
For more attentive Assassin’s Creed fans, Boudon’s statements are nothing new, but rather a confirmation of rumors shared by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier back in February of this year when the game was still known by its codename at the time.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is currently available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S is in development for Xbox One, PC, and Amazon Luna, and a release date has yet to be set.
