Frag Lab’s new free-to-play FPS game, Shatterline, has entered Steam Early Access after years of development and many challenges along the way. Frag Lab’s website says the team is made up of industry veterans, but Shatterline is the studio’s first project. Developing and releasing a game is difficult enough at the best of times, though Frag Lab has encountered some additional, even deadly, challenges along the way.
Frag Lab is based in kyiv, Ukraine, and the team not only faced the difficulty of completing development while war raged in the country, but after completing development, they accepted the challenge of publishing the game itself. Frag Lab initially partnered with Wargaming, a publisher known for MMOs and free-to-play games, but the partnership seems to have come to an end when the team tweeted that they had finished the game and released it in early access without using a publisher. .
Frag Lab describes Shatterline as a hybrid arena FPS with a roguelike co-op and various PvP modes, including conquest and escort. Includes eight Agents and 25 awesome customizable weapons.
Shatterline’s Early Access debut was a bit of a chore, like all such attempts, but just hours after the game’s release, the Steam Frag Lab already has fixes and changes in the works based on community feedback. The team said that the main problem is related to the lack of servers. Twitteras Shatterline proves to be more popular than the team expected.
Other issues include the usual balance as well as progression adjustments. The game will go offline on September 9, while Frag Lab will release the first Shatterline patch.
Reaction to the game has been more enthusiastic than Frag Lab expected, and feedback on issues and fixes so far has also been pretty positive. In a similar situation to the first Splitgate release, the development team is working closely with the community to help personalize the experience and address the most pressing issues players are facing as they get used to the game.
With Splitgate out of Early Access now without all of the core features envisioned by 1047, it might be worth checking out Shatterline as a contender for the next big multiplayer FPS.
