The Sims 4 art surfaces showing what a life simulator could be

A piece of art from The Sims 4 has surfaced online – or more accurately, resurfaced since it first surfaced in 2014 – that appears to show a rather different take on what Maxis’s game of life might have been if the team would have followed his vision. Redditer saltydungeonmaster discovered a piece of concept art in The Sims 4 Studio, a tool used to create the best custom content for The Sims 4, showing a huge open field that, at first glance, looks like a normal Sims neighborhood setting. Take a closer look, though, and you’ll see that there’s much more at stake.

The water wheel is in the center of the map, located on the river (of course), while the ruins of a castle dot the landscape, and the windmill is outside what looks like a bustling medieval town. It is unclear whether this means that Maxis was planning a historical Sims 4 or, as some critics have suggested, intended to develop the time machine feature.

The Sims 3 Time Machine allows you to go back in time to fix problems between your Sims and generally change the timeline. While there were references to the distant past, like mummies coming home with your Sim, you never really got to explore past times. The idea of making medieval friends and doing one of the worst jobs ever: piss-soaked dry cleaner, anyone? – opens up so many possibilities for what The Sims could be and how Maxis could change the formula.

Without our own time machine, we’ll just have to wait and see if that happens in a future Sims game.

In the meantime, if you’re looking to change up your Sims game in the present, our list of the best Sims 4 mods has just what you’re looking for. And if that’s not spicy enough, there are plenty of Sims 4 sex mods that will add a NSFW twist to your fantasy life.
