Now there’s a cheaper Xbox Pro controller for your gaming PC

Microsoft just introduced a new version of its Xbox Elite 2 controller, and you can bring pro controller functionality to your gaming PC for less money. The company says the new tablet, dubbed “Core,” aims to provide “core components that meet the essential needs of today’s gamers.”

The Xbox Elite Series 2 Core comes with the bells and whistles normally included in enthusiast PC controllers, like tension-adjustable thumbsticks, a rubber grip, and shorter hair triggers. You can also replace your thumbsticks, d-pad, and triggers with an optional accessory pack, a neat gimmick bundled with the original, and alternatives like the Thrustmaster Eswap X.

The Xbox Elite 2 and the new Core Pad are mostly the same, but the former has a white chassis and contrasting black grips. If that particular aesthetic isn’t for you, you’ll be happy to know that the gamepad is headed to the Xbox Design Lab, which means you can play around with the damn color schemes until the cows come home.

The new Xbox controller goes on sale September 21 and is available to pre-order now for $129.99 / £142.99. The fact that it costs $50 less than the original means it could quickly become a serious contender for the best PC controller, especially if it has similar capabilities for less.
