Specs for GPD’s upcoming Win 4 competitor Steam Deck have been leaked online, and the gaming laptop appears to be equipped with a more powerful AMD APU. It also has a much higher resolution screen than Valve’s portable powerhouse, but it’s unclear if it will match the Deck’s affordable price tag.
according to the youtuber Carey Golom, the competitor GPD Win 4 Steam Deck features an AMD 6800U APU, 16GB or 32GB LPDDR5-6400 gaming memory, up to 32GB SSD storage, and a six-inch 1080p display. On paper, the 6800U RDNA 2 APU is twice as fast as Valve’s custom Aerith chip and offers clock speeds of up to 4.7 GHz.
It’s worth noting that, like the Steam Deck, the Win 4 APU GDP will apparently be capped at 15W. That said, Golomb claims the device is still around 20 percent faster than Valve’s machine, so you’ll likely be able to push the framerate even higher with a competing laptop.
Of course, more power requires more power, and the GPD Win 4 will reportedly run on a 45.62Wh battery. By comparison, the Steam Deck is rated at 40Wh, but the upgraded specs could balance out that particular playing field.

Looks like a PSP, works like a Steam Deck
GPD Win 4 first appeared a few weeks ago, and the device almost looks like a successor to the PSP or PS Vita. However, it actually has a nifty trick up its sleeve, as there’s a qwerty keyboard hidden under the sliding screen. In other words, you won’t have to worry about using on-screen keyboards, even if you end up using the mechanism as a fidget toy.
Whether GPD Win 4 will become a true competitor to the Steam Deck remains to be seen, as pricing is still on Valve’s side. Also, it’s not the only company vying for portable gaming PC share, as competitors like Ayaneo Next 2 and Onexplayer will soon join the fight for the portable throne. However, we may also get Steam Deck 2 soon, so the showcase giant’s time at the top might not be that short.
