The phrase “God of War cosplay Bob Ross” probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind for most people when they’re trying to figure out what to wear to their next convention. After all, Bob Ross is one of the most chilled-out characters in television history, known to many as the father of ASMR for his laid-back, upbeat presentation and soft brush strokes. Instead, Kratos from God of War… no. In fact, he is arguably the most evil character in video game history.
So the combination of an angry Sony dad and a calm artist is more of an inspiration from Reddit user bradleyb623, who shared his adorable DragonCon outfit with the Cosplay subreddit. He combines Bob Ross’ trademark soft, fluffy, permed hair with the pale complexion and characteristic red markings associated with Kratos (and, of course, a rather lush beard).
The outfit changes Ross much more: a baggy blue shirt and jeans, but the look is completed with gear inspired by the ax and shield wielded by Kratos in 2018’s God of War. However, Brad reimagines them as the giant paintbrush. and the palette Ross carried so often. There are, of course, many of his favorite colors, from alizarin purple and cadmium yellow to brilliant red and, of course, Prussian blue. Unfortunately, there’s no titanium white on screen, but it looks like some of it could have been used to create some of the remaining colors. It all comes to life with Brad’s fantastical expression, perfectly capturing Kratos’ furious rage.
We can’t lie, as soon as we saw this we burst out laughing at his incredible wit. Whether it was planned from the start or just a fluke, Brad’s cosplay proves that you can do anything as long as you believe in it. And it may not be the difference in tone that it seems at first glance; after all, who better to defeat the devil than the god of war?
