Upcoming updates to Tower of Fantasy will put a lot of pressure on them to help set the RPG apart from the competition. Hotta advertised it as an MMO, but whether it’s its gameplay, open world, or gacha-style character system, people often compare Tower of Fantasy to HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact. Tower of Fantasy Level Infinite editor Dmitry Lazarev and Denise Kirka told PCGamesN at Gamescom that players should remember that the game is only available in the West for about two weeks.
While Tower of Fantasy naturally has some of the aspects everyone expects from an anime RPG, Lazarev and Kirka say the goal going forward is to focus on what makes a Hotta game unique: its MMO roots and deep character customization. Whatever form it may take, it’s been a bit less apparent, though it’s clear as of the upcoming Tower of Fantasy 2.0 update that there’s a lot more to the game.
Tower of Fantasy 2.0 will double down on world-class sci-fi themes with a cyberpunk city and the devastating effects of a radioactive disaster, and the team said Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner were their biggest inspirations for their content.
The new metropolis, Mirror City, is located right in the center of a massive pyramid in a massive new Fantasy Tower desert region, inspired by the Gobi desert. Neon lights and futuristic technology are the only glow in this dark city cut off from the sun.
The desert is also home to a terrifying new boss, Rudolf. It may not be the most intimidating of names, but this Volt and Flame boss can quickly end your journey if you’re not careful. Rudolph periodically overheats and increases his strength, but you can cool him down to create a chance to attack.
