Balancing a League of Legends champion can be a daunting task, no question about it. Yumi is a true scourge of the underworld; Unable to be targeted while connected to the ADC, the magic cat keeps other champions alive when they should be dead. Now, after he had his healing reduced, Riot has announced a hotfix to increase his damage.
BUT series of tweets Riot lead designer Frokzon explains the changes to Yumi while trying to give some context: “In the long term, we want to reduce her power multiplication rate with fighters and make her happier when she’s sitting on Arrow.”
What Phroxzon is trying to figure out is the tendency for Yuumi players to see the laning phase with their ADC, then immediately join a strong, bruise-like lone laner for the rest of the game.
Someone like Aatrox, for example, already has a lot of sustain on his team and spent most of the match solo, so he’ll be ahead of pretty much everyone else in terms of experience. If you add Yumi to the mix, they become nearly indestructible and provide very little countermeasures.
With that said, Riot decided to nerf Yumi’s overall heal output with patch 12.16. It is strange that very shortly after the release of 12.16 they implemented a patch that improved chat. These are the planned changes:
Yumi
- Crouch Projectile (Q) Base Damage (no bonus) 50/80/110/140/170/200 > 50/90/130/170/210/250
- Crouch Projectile (Q): Base Damage (increased) 60/100/140/180/220/260 (+2/3.2/4.4/5.6/6.8/8% of target’s current HP) > 60/110/160/210 / 260/310 (+3/4.2/5.4/6.6/7.8/9% of target’s current health)
- Final Chapter (R): Cooldown 130/110/90s > 110/100/90s
The responses below the ad are full of questions and anger in equal measure. Some fans offer suggestions on how to make the game against Yumi less painful, while Yamato canyonthe head coach of FNATIC simply asks “why”.
It will be interesting to see how this damage increase affects Yumi’s pick rate, especially in the pro scene, as she is essentially picked/banned in every game.
