August 23, 2022 As Sony announces the launch of PSVR 2 in 2023, we remind you once again how much we want it to be compatible with our gaming PC.

Sony said we have to wait until next year with its new PlayStation VR 2 headset and motion controllers. While this is undoubtedly a major improvement over its predecessor in terms of specs, it could be even better if it also run on PC. With USB Type-C connectivity, Sony can make the device compatible with gaming PCs, and it should be.

PlayStation VR 2 promises technical advantages over even the best VR headsets like Valve Index. It features 4K HDR OLED panels with 2000 x 2040 resolution per eye and 90/120Hz refresh rate. Such specs naturally require a lot of graphics power, but if Sony were to make the device PC-compatible, Improved technologies like Radeon Super Resolution or Nvidia DLSS could help improve performance.

As well as ditching the proprietary junction box for a more universal USB Type-C connection, PlayStation VR2 doesn’t require an external tracking device thanks to inside-out tracking with the help of cameras built into the headset. While it’s not as loose as a wireless headset like the Oculus Quest 2, it’s clean and simple enough to make the prospect of jumping into VR a lot less time and space consuming.

Sony also intends to bring its 3D audio technology to the headset’s built-in speakers, along with some potentially groundbreaking eye-tracking and haptic feedback features. The company describes the latter as “an intelligent touch element that brings gamers closer to the game. For example, players may feel the character’s pulse quicken during moments of tension, the movement of objects passing near the character’s head, or the jolt of a vehicle as the character rushes forward.

Unfortunately, the original PlayStation VR was not widely compatible with PC due to proprietary connections, Sony has a unique opportunity to provide a VR headset compatible with Windows and PlayStation platform. It would be an easy way to grow your new PlayStation PC brand and a fantastic unique selling point. Regardless, since it uses a USB Type-C connection, someone will likely make it work on our platforms whether Sony likes it or not. However, while we have wait until 2023 Let’s see if Sony fills our wish list.
