Steam Deck takes a bath, perks up with booze

The portability of the Steam Deck opens up the possibility of playing games you couldn’t imagine, and some gamers dare to use a portable gaming PC in the bathroom. One such person had to meet her fate when her device slipped from her soapy fingers into the bubbling water below her, prompting them to set off quickly to save her prized portable power station.

Reddit user smallmouthbackus begins his mission to rescue Steam Deck by opening the device and disassembling it, carefully removing as many components as possible from the soap-soaked casing.

However, instead of letting everything dry out, they made sure to clean every square inch of Steam Deck’s innards with 99% alcohol.

While isopropyl alcohol does the exact opposite of reviving meat sacks, applying it to electronic devices can help prevent any short circuits caused by water. However, it is not a cure-all, as it cannot undo the damage already done.

After opening the Steam Deck, smallmouthbackus described the time between pressing the power button and turning on the screen as “an eternity”, but was “delighted” when the logo finally appeared on the screen.

While everyone should celebrate this happy ending, especially Smallmouthbackus, none of this would have been possible if Valve hadn’t made a concerted effort to make their device more repairable.

We hope that with more Steam Deck replacement parts available, we can hear more success stories like this one to keep every gaming laptop safe from the junkyard for as long as possible.
