It turns out that some of the Elden Ring’s most intimidating mounts can turn on their masters, as shown in a particularly hilarious gameplay video. The giant open-world game FromSoftware features countless Elden Ring bosses and other enemies riding a wide variety of creatures. While you may have the trusty Torrent mount on your side, some of the enemy mounts can be much more monstrous, and you’re apparently less likely to ride them.
In a clip posted to the Elden Ring subreddit by user lexbauvelt, a fairly dramatic example of a fight with the swordsman Knox on top of a giant ant is shown. You can assume that this association is the result of a symbiotic relationship between the two communities developed over many years in the same space. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as the ants seem less happy with the big picture.
In the clip, Lexbauvelt punches the swordsman Knox (try saying it three times fast) from his perch on a giant ant. A mysterious robed figure rises from the ground and prepares to continue the attack no matter what, but is spectacularly impaled from behind by his former steed. As users have pointed out in the comments, the ants have glowing purple eyes, suggesting that their Nox riders may have enchanted them against their will.
Other people in the thread point out some more details. You can actually put the ants to sleep, which will also dispel the spell, causing them to throw the rider on their back and attack him. Another video posted on YouTube shows that if Knox, riding an ant, dies and the ants are left to fend for themselves, they appear to revert to feral beasts, roaming around and attacking other nearby characters they would normally have left alone. . . The Knox Guide.
Although some members of the community are aware of this small detail, many players have noted that they have never encountered this before. Some even say that they haven’t noticed this particular trick despite spending hours collecting Nox armor sets. It’s another one of those incredible hidden nuances from FromSoftware that helps cement Elden Ring as one of the best RPGs of all time.
