Riot Games today unveiled new plans for an expanded Challenger ecosystem for the 2023 season. Challengers will include 21 regional circuits across the Americas, Asia Pacific, and EMEA to bring out the best new talent. Challengers will play an important role in identifying promising talent, testing the skills of teams wishing to play in international leagues, and integrating sport with the game. The Challenger Leagues will provide an organized competition that starts with open qualifiers and will line up the top teams in two rounds over several weeks of the regular season. In addition, teams that start with it will be able to rise to international leagues and, one day, even to global events.

Next year, the Challenger Leagues of the three territories will culminate in a new series: the Challengers Ascension. Three Challengers Ascension tournaments will determine the best teams in their territories. Teams that win all three Challengers Ascension tournaments will earn a spot in next year’s International League.
As part of the Challengers promotion system, the three international leagues will be joined by another team each year, reaching a maximum of 14 in 2027.
