The runes in Elden Ring are the key to empowerment. These pass items drop nearly every enemy in the game and can be used to buy new items from shops or to upgrade your character – their most valuable use.
While in a normal game you’ll usually find enough runes to keep up with the game, you may need a more serious resource if you’re looking for a PvP game or if you’re too overpowered for a particular fight. Either way, here are some powerful rune farm locations, depending on where you are in the game.
And as an aside: if you’re far enough to equip a Golden Scarab in the Ring of Eldan before you start farming, you’ll be glad you did. We have a guide to catch it.
If you’re looking for a farm right behind the gate, one of the quickest ways to do it is to head to Marika Third Church in North Eastwood, as shown in this PowerPyx video.
Next to the church is a waterway that teleports you to the Gray Dragon Bar. Go straight down the path until you reach Grace point in front of the bridge.
Rest on the ground, then clear the area for small, relatively weak enemies near the north. Shaking them off isn’t difficult, and they’re down a few hits using magic or stealth. Eliminate them, make sure you don’t let them touch – they’ll probably give you a one-hit – then quickly drop them on the ground for Grace to reset. Each kill should drop to around 1000 runes, and you can repeat this as many times as you want.
If you’re looking for runes with slightly less active activity, you should head to the Great Impassable Bridge at Keelid’s southernmost point. To get there, you can try walking directly south of Gray Dragonbarrow, sprinting with you and any enemies in between, or you can choose a calmer (but still difficult) route east of Limgrave.
For the second route, you’ll want to reach the northeast corner of Limgrave next to the outskirts of Summonwater village. If you follow the road northeast from there, it will start turning south as soon as you reach Kaelid. Follow it to the southern peak of the continent and you will reach the large impassable bridge.
Northwest of Grace’s location, you’ll see a group of soldiers battling giant demon dogs. As soon as they get close enough, they will start fighting. Just stay close and out of sight and you’ll get 313 runes per dog and a reward for slaughtering each other at just under 200 soldiers. Each ride is expected to cost between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 and can be easily recharged with a quick trip to Grace’s site.
Among the most successful farming methods yet to be discovered, you can see it later in the game. It was discovered by YouTuber TagBackTV and requires some sort of bow, lots of arrows, and Starscourge Radahn’s Great Sword, which you can get after defeating him.
From there, you need to proceed to the Vare search engine. Meet him at the Rose Church of Lake Lurnia, use the three bloody fingers he gave you, then talk to him again to get the blood bounty.
Take him to the Church of Inhibition, located north of the composition of the mausoleum – but it will be easier to get there if you go west from this place of grace, use the mountainside to drop stones. Then follow the view of the north rock as you turn towards the church. Alternatively, you can start at the east gate of Raya Lucaria and follow the same side of the cliff north.
In the Church of Inhibition, in the blood of a virgin lying with grace, you can paint the benevolence of the Lord of Blood.
When you return to Ware, you will receive the Bloody Finger and the Pure Blood Knight Medal. Open your inventory and use the medal to teleport to your spectators in the field. As soon as you are there, jump on your horse and run northeast along the wall. You’ll need to go through a number of enemies and then head south through a small pool of blood until you reach Grace’s location.
This is where farming begins. Rest on the floor of Grace, then tie your bow and run to the edge of the cliff. Enclose the giant chicken in the abyss and shoot once with a bow. Switch to Starscourge Greatsword, enter a group of nearby mobs and use its unique ability to absorb them all, then use its second shot to kill them instantly. During this time, the chicken will go over the edge and die.
Each run should give you 35,000 runes. With three jogs per minute, you’re totaling over 100,000 jogs per minute, which adds up to millions every hour.
