Final Fantasy 7 Remake doesn’t officially exist on Oculus Quest 2, but a new mod adds VR headset support to the PC version of the game, meaning you’ll be able to explore Midgar with your own eyes and a few points. Meta, and it should take the RPG experience to a whole new level.

The Verge notes that the VR mod for Final Fantasy 7 Remake is being developed by Luke Ross, the VR modder who added Oculus Quest 2 and VR headset support to games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077.

While the project doesn’t turn the RPG into a first-person shooter, you’ll feel like you’re right behind Cloud and the gang. However, Ross says the sensation will hit you like “the power of a speeding steel train” and describes the mod’s camera movement as “wild”.

Fans are already sharing their FF7 Remake VR experiences online, and a clip from enthusiast Brian Tate shows off the experience. The benefits of VR mean you can see Square Enix’s reimagined Midgar for yourself, and being able to peek around walls alongside Cloud should make you feel like a true member of the group.

Playing games with the best VR headset instead of a gaming monitor is a great way to shake things up, especially if you’re working from home. Of course, not every game comes equipped with a VR mode, which means fans have to rely on mods to get the most out of their expensive headset.

If you want to try out the FF7 Remake VR mod, check out Luke Ross’s Patreon page. The modder has apparently hinted that Spider-Man Remastered could be next on his VR calendar, so stay tuned for more on that.
