Spirit Walker, Summoner’s Rift resident Udyr has undergone a pretty major overhaul in an effort to bring him back to the list of top League of Legends champions. With a brand new look and a host of new (yet familiar) abilities, the jungler of the Freljord is back in action stronger than ever. Here’s everything you need to know about his new redesign.
Udyr is one of the most beloved champions in League of Legends, with an undying closeness to nature and the ability to transform into some of the Freljord’s most feared beasts.
Sadly though, the shaman-style jungler has largely fallen into obscurity, struggling to keep up with newer young marksmen like Viego and Bel’Vet. His team was a bit rough around the edges, the footage of him was incredibly tired, and sadly he fell off the priority list.

League of Legends Udyr: Abilities
Udyr has always known how to close in on his enemies, drawing on the power of the Freljord’s mightiest creatures to bolster both his offense and defense.
During Riot’s redesign roundtable, product manager Lexi Gao said, “We really wanted to keep his personality-swapping stance and keep him as a melee, auto-attack champion. That’s what makes Udyra stand out.” stand out on our list of champions, so we really want to keep it that way.”
Designer Stash Chelluk continues: “We wanted his kit to be very similar to the current kit; we liked that it was relatively simple in close combat and its goal was to attack you and deal damage.”
Below are all of his new abilities, the main difference being the stance name change.
PASSIVE: Bridge Between (Awakened Mind/Monk Training)
- Udyr has 4 main ability stances, each associated with a Freljodian demigod. Every ~30 seconds, she can awaken her active stance, revive her to refresh her and gain bonus effects.
- After casting (or recasting) the ability, Udyr’s next two attacks increase his attack speed by 40%.
Q – Savage Claw
- Udyr gets into a claw stance. Grants attack speed. The next two attacks deal explosive damage.
- Awakened: Increases attack speed, and next 2 attacks are lightning bolts that bounce up to 6 times (can hit the same target multiple times if isolated).
W – Iron Cloak
- Udyr enters cloak position. He gets a shield. The next two attacks restore health.
- Awakened: Shield buff, stacking. Restores a large amount of maximum health over 2 seconds.
E: Burning Heart Strike
- Udyr enters Stance Stampede. Get a movement speed burst. In this stance, the first attack on each target stuns them.
- Awakened: Increases movement speed, gains control immunity for a short time.
Ultimate (R): Winged Storm
- Udyr enters a storm position. He summons a storm of ice that damages and slows nearby enemies. The next two attacks increase Storm’s AoE.
- Awakening: Storm breaks away from Udyr and follows the last enemy she attacked (dealing more damage).
Udyr Rework in League of Legends: release date
The new improved Udyr will appear in League of Legends with Update 12.16. With League of Legends patch 12.15 available later today (August 9), we can expect it to arrive in about two weeks, so August 23rd.
It will be available on PBE though, so feel free to dive in and give it a try; after all, you’ll be ahead of the competition if you do.
While Udyr looks just like his new main character, he also comes with a host of visual upgrades. All of his old skins have been redesigned, so if he’s tempted to buy them, be sure to check how much money he’s spent on League of Legends beforehand, or, in fact, don’t.
