Terraria Update 1.4.4 Ends Corrupted Jungle

Terraria’s Labor of Love 1.4.4 update plans to put an end to your jungle woes for good, with a major quality of life change that will make a huge difference to players in the crafting game. Players no longer have to spend hours clearing out their jungle to protect it from damage, or turning to Terraria mods to save biomes otherwise lost to co-op corruption, all thanks to the addition of a new block type.

As the release of the Terraria 1.4.4 update draws closer, developer Re-Logic has finally revealed the “thing” it’s been teasing for a while: the intro. contaminated clay grass tiles. It may seem uninteresting, but experienced Terraria players will be aware of the nightmares caused by evil biomes invading jungle tiles. The change that allows mud tiles to be infested without turning to mud makes evil biomes much less of a threat to the long-term health of your jungle.

In Hard Mode (the second half of Terraria’s world progression), tiles affected by Corruption, Crimson, or Holy will slowly spread to adjacent blocks. This means that if left unchecked, biomes can gradually take over your entire world. While the jungle is immune to holy effects, it is susceptible to any evil biomes (corruption or crimson) present in your world.

It’s a pain in any biome, but cleaning dust and ultimate items like the Clentaminator can reverse the infection and cleanse areas to their world state. A new potion, introduced in version 1.4.4, even helps players spot evil areas on the map so they can be dealt with quickly. So what’s the deal with the jungle?

In a nutshell, one of the effects of spreading evil is to dry out dirt blocks, jungle pillars, and turn them into simple dirt blocks. This cannot be easily reversed, meaning junglers affected by Crimson’s corruption or spread can be destroyed entirely. If too much land is converted, the jungle area will be converted to a standard forest biome, making it much harder to get critical late-game jungle resources without additional work.

This has typically resulted in many players digging a wide tunnel around their jungle biome to prevent evil biomes from spreading across the abyss. This update makes that a thing of the past, as you can now use the Cleaning Powder or Clentaminator at any time to turn contaminated dirt back into normal gooey brown stuff (and we’re not talking about the much-discussed poop blocks also in the new update).

The Terraria team has also been added to Labor of Love.
