It appears that the improvements to Starfield Creation Engine 2 are aimed at making the giant space game a showcase for Bethesda’s updated engine. Creation Engine 2, which will be expanded for future games including The Elder Scrolls 6, has been highly anticipated after a decade of games based on its predecessor. Now, a Starfield fan has spoken about some of the key advances the new technology brings.

YouTuber Colt Eastwood dives into the plethora of Starfield footage featured by Bethesday and compares it to Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, games that Bethesda created on the previous Creation Engine. The engine was based on the earlier Gamebryo engine used for games like Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3.

While the team at Bethesda has been developing and refining the engine for years with each new release, its distinctive visual style has often been the subject of jokes, especially its rather stiff animation and so-called “Bethesda face” effect when characters they look clumsy. to the camera during a one-on-one conversation.

Eastwood is careful to emphasize the much more natural animation that Creation Engine 2 offers. Up close, the talking camera’s viewing angle still looks very much like old Bethesda games, detailed animation including custom hand animations for faces, as well as procedural lip sync and animated eyes make the characters look much more natural and realistic than Fallout 4 characters.

Also note the bustling cities of Starfield. One of Bethesda’s strengths has always been the “inhabited” nature of its worlds, but spending enough time in Skyrim’s Whiterun or Fallout 4’s Diamond City will familiarize you with the routes and strict interactions of each NPC. Shining AI Creation Engine 2 aims to create a more dynamic environment filled with the bustle of a real colony.

As seen in the preview images, dozens of characters stand or roam the streets of some of Starfield’s major cities. Eastwood says that the enhanced shiny AI allows the NPCs in the game to dynamically react and interact with the world around them. Additionally, Bethesda’s improved procedural generation will likely make Skyrim and Fallout 4’s randomly generated quests a thing of the past, with more natural integration to help the player visit new locations.

You can watch Eastwood’s full detailed description on YouTube, which also details the game’s combat systems and the story of the creative engine.

As Starfield’s release date approaches, we’re getting details on most of the RPG’s features, including character creation options and everything we know so far about the Starfield voice actor.
