The Serpent Moon event in Hunt: Showdown kicks off on July 27, and this two-month event will introduce new ideas for PvPvE survival gameplay. The event itself is a twist on the familiar Traitor’s Moon format from earlier this year, but Crytek is also adding a battle pass system for the first time.
Like most Battle Pass systems, Serpent Moon Pass will have free and gold tracks. Anyone can earn rewards on the free track just by playing the Hunt and earning event points. At any time during the free path, you can also purchase access to the Golden Path, which will automatically unlock any level you complete on the free path.
Battle Pass rewards include the new Sparks Pistol and Romero 77 Alamo, as well as around 1,000 Blood Bonds, though you must earn 1,500 Blood Bonds to purchase access to the Gilded Path. There are nine new legendary items, including weapons, tools, and consumables.
Serpent Moon Event Rules
Serpent Moon Event itself revolves around collecting snakes rather than destroying decoys. Crytek believes that this will greatly improve the situation: you can find snakes in baskets scattered throughout the hunting maps, but it is not advisable to run out and start rummaging through garbage: the snakes will go crazy and bite you, poisoning you. Instead, you have to sneak up on them unhindered, similar to how wounded horses and flocks of ravens react to your movement in The Hunt.
Any snake you collect will give you Snake Tokens, which you can also earn by searching for clues, killing bosses, and looting them from dead players. However, you cannot extract them from the map; they will simply disappear and be lost if you do. Instead, you’ll want to take them to the altar where you can sacrifice your snakes for event points. The Event Points you earn will be used to advance through the Battle Pass ranks.
Crytek says you’ll find altars located near boss compounds, another attempt to change the pace of who players face and how.
Live game designer Anton Rogov hints that the team is considering moving to a seasonal system for Hunt: Showdown, so we have to see how well Serpent Moon will appeal to the gaming community.
