Starfield Akila City Guide

In Starfield, Akila City is a much more rugged hub of human activity than you’ll find in other urban areas in the galaxy. So far, players have been introduced to the three main cities in Starfield: the capital of the United Colonies, New Atlantis, the watery world of Neon, and finally, the Freestar Collective’s fortified township, Akila City.

So what do we know about Akila City from Starfield Already? Well, we’ve compiled everything we know about the city, from its location in the galaxy and the Freestar Collective that inhabits it, to speculation about its culture and idiosyncrasies.

Who runs the city of Akila?

Akila City is the capital of one of Starfield’s many factions, the Freestar Collective, which is a loose confederation of three separate star systems.

Along with the United Colonies of New Atlantis, the Freestar Collective is one of the two main governments of the Settled Systems, and they fought the UC for their independence in the Great Colonial War of 2310.

We are still completely in the dark about Akila’s location in the colonized systems, but the planet appears to have a relatively temperate climate.

However, we discover (by scanning the windows in excruciating detail) that the city of Akeelah was founded in 2167 by someone named Solomon Coe, so when you run into him, the settlement has been around for 163 years.

Starfield lead designer Emile Pagliarulo describes Akila City in a developer commentary video as home to a wide variety of people who have one thing in common: “They believe in the sanctity of personal freedom and individuality.”

Why is the city of Akila surrounded by a wall?

We also know that the city of Akila exists within the wall. Why? Because the walls keep out deadly alien predators called ashtas, which are described as “a cross between a wolf and a velociraptor.”

We think we’ve seen Ashta’s effigy in the demo images, so take a look at the screenshot above.

Akila City Vendors and Items

Compared to the New Atlantis, the Akila looks much more compact, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do there. In the window frames, there are three vendors at the entrance to the city:

  • Hitch – looks like a tavern.
  • Shepherd’s General Store – A place for all things different
  • Rowland Arms is supposed to be a supplier of fine weapons.

On top of that, we’re guessing we’ll be able to work on our ship somewhere on Aquila, as well as receive assignments from the Freestar Collective at their headquarters. We assume that there will be several hunting missions outside the city walls related to these terrifying Ashts.

That is all we know about the city of Akila. We’ll be sure to update this guide as we hear more from Bethesda. At this point, when it comes to Starfield, there’s so much more to discover, from exploring the map and understanding Starfield character creation to learning how base building works. You can even start thinking about your skills and experience before Starfield’s 2023 release date. Okay, we’ve been waiting for a new BGS game for years!
